REQUIEM in D minor K. 626

The Requiem was commissioned from Mozart by an unknown person in the summer of 1791, while he was working on the composition of “The Magic Flute,” a Singspiel based on a libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder. Having accepted the commission, he began composing it with great enthusiasm, but he was never able to complete it. Indeed, he died just a few months later, on the same day he completed the Confutatis maledictis, December 5, 1791. The completion of the work was entrusted by his wife to Franz Xaver Süssmayr, a pupil and friend of Mozart.
